Sara Benninga is a contemporary painter living and working in Jerusalem. Benninga’s paintings correspond critically with art history and its representation of gender and human relations. Merging sources and references, Benninga deals with issues of identity, narrative and image making from her point of view - a painter, 40 years old, a woman, a mother. Benninga is a lecturer at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem, in the department of visual and material culture. She also lectures in the department of art history at Tel Aviv University. Benninga completed a Phd in art history at the Hebrew University (2017), a BFA at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design (2012), a MA in art history from the Hebrew University (2009) and a BA in art history and literature from Tel Aviv University (2006). Benninga exhibits regularly. She has recently exhibited a double show “Close” at Museum on the Seam, Jerusalem, a solo show “Bacchaal” at Maya Gallery, Tel Aviv, a solo show “Looking Beyond” at Tal Gallery, Kfar Vradim, a group show “Girotondo” at Litvak Contemporary, Tel Aviv and other group shows in Israel.
